Acrobatic Gymnastics Routines Explained
Acrobatic Pairs
Pair competition is divided into Men's Pair, Women's Pair and Mixed Pair. Two gymnasts work together, usually with one acting as the base and the other as the top, performing lifts, balances, throws, catches and acrobatic elements that demand strength, control and precise timing.
Acrobatic Groups
Group competition includes Women's Group, made up of three gymnasts, and Men's Group, featuring four. The larger formations allow for more complex pyramids, multi-person balances and powerful dynamic skills involving throws and catches.
Balance, Dynamic and Combined Routines
Balance routines focus on strength, flexibility and controlled static positions, including hand-balancing elements and human pyramids.
Dynamic routines are built around flight, with gymnasts performing throws, catches, somersaults and other airborne skills.
Combined routines bring Balance and Dynamic elements together, testing the full range of a pair or group's technical and artistic ability.
