U20 World Athletics Championships 2026 Oregon
The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 2026 will bring together the world's best under-20 track and field athletes at the iconic Hayward Field, University of Oregon, from 5-9 August 2026. Often regarded as the launching pad for future Olympic and World Championship stars, the five-day event features the next generation competing across sprint, distance, jumps, throws, relays and combined events. World U20 Athletics Championships 2026 Qualifying Standards
The World Athletics U20 Championships are open to athletes who meet both the age and qualification requirements set by World Athletics.
To compete in Oregon:
- Athletes must be aged between 16 and 19 years old (inclusive) on 31 December 2026
- Athletes must achieve the published World Athletics entry standards or qualify through the relevant qualification system.
- Entries are submitted by each national federation.
- The final entry list will be confirmed and published by World Athletics shortly before the championships begin.
The championships are widely recognised as one of athletics' most important development competitions, with many Olympic and World Championship medallists having first made their mark at the U20 level, including Mondo Duplantis and Faith Kipyegon.
World Athletics U20 Championships Results Lima 2024
The previous edition took place in Lima, Peru from 27-31 August 2024, where athletes from around the world competed in five days of world-class junior athletics. The championships produced four championship records, in the Women's 5000m, Women's 3000m Steeplechase, Men's Decathlon and Men's 10,000m Race Walk. There were also six area U20 records and 71 national records, highlighting the remarkable standard of competition.

Standout Performances at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2024
Several athletes produced memorable performances in Lima:
- Medina Eisa (Ethiopia) set a championship record of 14:39.71 to win the women's 5000m.
- Sembo Almayew (Ethiopia) broke the championship record in the women's 3000m steeplechase with 9:12.71.
- Tomáš Järvinen (Czechia) established a new championship record of 8,425 points in the decathlon.
- Rayen Cherni (Tunisia) set a championship record in the men's 10,000m race walk with 39:24.85.

The championships will take place at the world-renowned Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene. Widely regarded for its facilities, Hayward Field has a capacity of approximately 25,000 spectators following its extensive redevelopment.
Oregon has a rich history of hosting global athletics events. Hayward Field previously staged the World Athletics U20 Championships in 2014 and became the first American venue to host the World Athletics Championships in 2022.
