What are the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The European Artistic Gymnastics Championships are the continent's oldest championship for gymnastics talent outside the Olympic and World stage, a competition where reputations are made, defended and occasionally undone in the space of a single routine.
Run by European Gymnastics (formerly known as the European Union of Gymnastics), the Women's Championships are held annually but alternate in format from one year to the next: even-numbered years stage a standalone women's event, complete with a junior competition and both team and individual all-around titles, while odd-numbered years fold the women's competition into a joint "individual championships" alongside the men, and run without juniors. Whichever format is in play, its winners are recognised as full European champions, taking their place alongside Olympic and World medallists in the sport's record books.

What to Expect in Zagreb for the 2026 Women's European Championships
Zagreb stages the standalone edition of the championships, the 36th European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships, with juniors competing alongside the seniors.
Expect Italy to head into Croatia as strong favourites regardless: they topped the women's team competition at the standalone Rimini 2024 championships and again at the Leipzig 2025 individual championships.
In the all-around, Manila Esposito arrives chasing a third straight continental crown, having won gold at both Rimini 2024 (the standalone event) and Leipzig 2025 (the individual championships).
Elsewhere, keep an eye on Belgium's Nina Derwael, who swept the uneven bars and balance beam double at Leipzig 2025, and Romania's Ana Barbosu, who left Germany with four medals including floor gold.
The 35th Women's European Artistic Gymnastics Championships 2024
The 35th European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships was held in Rimini, Italy, from 2 to 5 May 2024. The competition doubled as an Olympic qualifier, with Belgium's Maellyse Brassart claiming the sole individual quota place on offer for Paris 2024.
Italy won the team title by a comfortable margin, with Elisa Iorio, Alice D'Amato, Manila Esposito and Angela Andreoli scoring 164.162 ahead of silver medallists Great Britain (162.162) and bronze medallists France (158.796).
In the all-around, Manila Esposito claimed the European title with 55.432, ahead of team-mate Alice D'Amato (54.831) and Great Britain's Alice Kinsella (53.599); Angela Andreoli recorded the third-highest score but was ineligible for a medal under the two-gymnasts-per-country rule.
D'Amato defended her uneven bars title ahead of team-mate Elisa Iorio and Great Britain's Georgia-Mae Fenton, while Esposito completed a beam-and-floor double gold, seeing off Romania's Sabrina Maneca-Voinea both times. France's Coline Devillard retained her vault title ahead of Bulgaria's Valentina Georgieva.
The Women's 2025 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships
Falling between Rimini and Zagreb was the 2025 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Individual Championships in Leipzig, Germany (26–31 May), which introduced a first-ever mixed team final.
Italy claimed the team title, beating Germany, with France taking bronze. Manila Esposito won the all-around crown with 54.965, ahead of Spain's Alba Petisco and Romania's Ana Barbosu, while Belgium's Nina Derwael achieved an uneven bars and balance beam double gold, and Ana Barbosu rounded out a four-medal week with floor gold. Germany won the mixed team final ahead of Great Britain, with Timo Eder and Karina Schönmaier winning the gold.
