The venue has repeatedly hosted top-tier IBU competitions, including the 2023 Biathlon World Championships, and remains central to Germany's winter sports identity.

With around 20,000 spectator seats filling the arena and forest routes, Oberhof is known for one of the most vibrant atmospheres in the sport.

About the Biathlon World Cup

The BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup is the sport's premier annual series, bringing together the world's top biathletes for a full winter of racing across Europe and beyond.

Held every year from November to March, the World Cup combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. It features multiple race formats, Sprint, Pursuit, Mass Start, Individual and Relays, with biathletes earning points at each event toward the coveted Overall World Cup title and discipline globes. Consistency across all venues, terrains and weather conditions is what ultimately crowns a World Cup champion.

The season is divided into several stages, each hosted at a different venue. These varied locations ensure the competition tests every element of biathlon: altitude, snow quality, shooting conditions and course profiles.

The series began in 1977-78 and has grown under the International Biathlon Union (IBU) into one of winter sport's most watched annual competitions.
